What is the Annexstad Family Foundation?
The Foundation was established by Al and Cathy Annexstad and their family to provide financial support for higher education to deserving students who have matured through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Minnesota.
What does the scholarship provide?
The amount of the scholarship will be based upon the individual financial circumstance of the student and the availability of resources from the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship. In combining student aid resources available from the Annexstad Family Foundation and the University of St. Thomas, the program’s goal is to assure funds for tuition, fees, room, board, and books are provided. Assuming the continued good standing and annual demonstrated financial need of the student, the scholarship will be renewed annually throughout the standard period required to obtain a bachelor’s degree at the University.
Who is eligible?
Students are eligible who have shown outstanding performance in high school, with special consideration being given to academic achievement, character, and qualities of leadership, while demonstrating significant financial need. In addition, the scholarship shall be awarded to students who have matured as a Little through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Minnesota, and be accepted for regular admission to the University of St. Thomas.
How will the selection be made?
The University of St. Thomas will determine recipients from the list of candidates who have applied and who have been accepted based upon University admissions guidelines. Candidates must also meet the conditions of the scholarship as outlined.
How does one apply?
Interested students should apply during their senior year of high school. Your Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter may already be encouraging you to do so. Complete the standard application for admission to the University of St. Thomas. Students should also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Copies of these forms are available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or from your Guidance Office at your high school or from your Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter. Additional documentation such as parent and student tax returns and W-2 forms may be required to finalize the financial aid award. You will be notified by the University’s Financial Aid Office if any additional documents are required.
When will the recipient be named?
First, successful candidates for admission will be notified by the University of St. Thomas in the spring preceding the academic year they will begin their studies. To recognize their achievement, students and members of the Annexstad family and foundation staff will be invited to the annual Spring Scholarship Showcase event at the University of St. Thomas that unites scholarship recipients with their benefactors.
