What is the Annexstad Family Foundation?
The Foundation was established by Al and Cathy Annexstad and their family to provide financial support for higher education to deserving students who have matured through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

What does the scholarship provide?
The amount of the scholarship will be based upon the individual financial circumstances of the student and the availability of resources from the Annexstad Family Foundation. By combining student aid resources available from the Annexstad Family Foundation, federal, state, and University sources, the program’s goal is to assure funds for tuition, fees, room, board, and books are provided. Assuming the continued good standing and annual demonstrated financial need of the student, the scholarship will be renewed annually throughout the standard period required to obtain a bachelor’s degree at the University.

Who is eligible?
A successful candidate will be a student who has shown outstanding performance in high school, with special emphasis placed on academic achievement, character, and qualities of leadership, while demonstrating significant financial need. The student must have matured as a “Little” in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and be accepted for admission to the University.

How will the selection be made?
The University will determine the recipient from the list of candidates who have applied and been accepted based upon University guidelines and who also meet the conditions of the scholarship as outlined.

How does one apply?
Students interested in this scholarship should apply for admission to Bemidji State University and for this scholarship by February 1st of their senior year in high school. Big Brothers Big Sisters Chapters will often encourage applicants to apply. For detailed information on how to apply, you should contact the Office of Admissions at 1-877-BEMIDJI (236-4354). Applicants must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1st. You can submit this form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. BSU’s Office of Financial Aid will verify each student’s enrollment/admittance to the University, as well as the financial aid package. In cooperation with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the University’s Office of Admissions will identify those eligible to receive the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship.

When will the recipient be named?
Upon completion of the admission and financial aid processes, students will be notified of their eligibility for the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship in an official letter from the Office of Admissions and from their financial aid award letter from the University’s Office of Financial Aid.
